On a visit to Moscow, President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo sought Russia's diplomatic support in the search for lasting peace in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. He held talks with his counterpart Vladimir Putin on Friday 30 October 2026 at the Kremlin, on the margins of the third Russia–Africa summit.
The Congolese head of state highlighted Russia's role as a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council and asked it to support the implementation of Resolution 2773, which notably demands the withdrawal of foreign forces from the east and has still not been implemented.
The future of MONUSCO was also discussed. The UN mission's mandate expires on 20 December 2026, and Kinshasa is counting on Moscow to help secure its extension.
Félix Tshisekedi also proposed a bilateral roadmap with set deadlines, built around three areas: economic cooperation, Russian support for peace efforts and regular diplomatic consultation at the United Nations. He said the Washington and Doha processes have not yet produced concrete results on the ground.
