Ebola response: Governor Paulin Lendongolia pledges to implement the recommendations

The Governor of Tshopo province, Paulin Lendongolia Lebabonga, has pledged to ensure that the recommendations of the intra-action review of the response to the 17th Ebola virus disease outbreak affecting the Democratic Republic of the Congo are put into practice.

He was speaking on Saturday 31 October 2026 in Kisangani, closing four days of work held under the theme “Building on achievements, meeting challenges and strengthening the effectiveness of the response”.

During the meeting, participants took stock of progress made against the outbreak, identified weaknesses in the system and set the priorities that should make health interventions in affected areas more effective.

The Governor praised the quality of the discussions. In his view, the recommendations adopted are essential tools for better coordination and greater effectiveness.

He gave assurances that the provincial executive would take ownership of them and ensure they are actually applied. Paulin Lendongolia also intends to oversee the coordination of activities in person, to speed up efforts to control the outbreak and bring it to an end.

He also stressed the need to protect the teams working on the response and to fight false information, which can undermine work on the ground.

Finally, the Governor called on everyone to mobilise for prevention, vaccination and community awareness. He said success depends on close cooperation between the population, health authorities and technical and financial partners.

For the province, the review should help consolidate what works and correct the shortcomings identified, so that the response is better suited to realities on the ground.
